At its 2024 Conference in Chicago, African World Press introduced Thandi, Liberation to scholars, students, practitioners, and institutions with interest in the African continent. Founded in 1957, ASA is a leading organization of African Studies in North America with a membership of approximately 2,000.

Morehouse College

Thandi’s former colleagues, friends and family celebrated the completion of her memoir at the African American Hall of Fame in the Martin Luther King Jr. International Chapel at Morehouse College. Her three daughters—Sibongile Montgomery (Atlanta), and Nomhle Canca and Nokukhanya Warren (both of Johannesburg)—spoke and signed copies.  A member of Morehouse’s famed Glee Club sang Nkosi Sikelel’ iAfrika to a standing audience.

NYC Book Launch

Staff of the American Friends Service Committee, friends and family attended an evening’s book celebration hosted by co-editor, Elizabeth Enloe, at a private home in New York City. Thandi’s daughter, Sibongile Montgomery of Atlanta, GA, represented her mother and signed copies of the memoir.














 



Harlem Book Fair

September 7th, 2024. New York City, USA




Kassahun Checole, Africa World Press publisher, hosted an exhibition booth for AWP’s 2024 publications with one of Thandi’s co-editors and other authors. Begun in 1957, the annual Fair is the United States’ largest African-American book fair and the nation’s flagship Black literary event.

Luthuli Museum

August 25, 2024. Groutville, South Africa



The Luthuli Museum hosted a hybrid event of presentations and audience participation entitled “30 Years of Peaceful Protest, 1956-1986” as part of South Africa’s Women’s Month. Speakers were Sophie Theresa Williams DeBruyn, one of the key organizers of the 1956 Women’s March on Pretoria, Professor Sibusiso Vil-Nkomo of the Thabo Mbeki African School of Public Policy, and Thandi’s co-editors, Elizabeth Enloe and Gloria Gaines.
